Objective
The objective of WIDEBEAM is to deliver advanced electronic communication of engineering, commercial and production information to manufacturing SMEs.
WIDEBEAM focuses on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in a supply-chain between customer, supplier and sub-contractor. The main goal is to produce a methodology and implementations for information exchange that meet the needs of the consortium members and can be integrated with current IT systems. This will be disseminated to manufacturing SMEs throughout Europe, using multimedia technologies to overcome cultural and learning barriers, inherent in organisations where the IT culture is not present and personnel are not trained in its use.
The work will be undertaken by ten manufacturing SMEs many of whom already share business relationships and communication problems. They will be supported by best practice co-ordinators (BPCs) from the UK with expertise in IT and data communications for SMEs, assisted by local co-ordinators in Spain and Bulgaria. The BPCs will be responsible for evaluation of needs and solutions ,a best practice database and training of manufacturing SME staff and managers. They will also undertake dissemination by a variety of means with the assistance of a specialist multimedia authoring partner and relevant European and national associations.
