Final Report Summary - NWFV (Nonlinear studies of water flows with vorticity)
The pursued research activity advanced the state-of-the-art of nonlinear water flows, addressing problems motivated by a combination of contemplation and intellectual curiosity (e.g. whether symmetry of the wave is possible only if the shape is preserved), as well as problems of practical relevance (e.g. the recovery of surface waves from pressure data at the bed). An unexpected bonus was the discovery of several families of equatorial waves. This opens up new possibilities for the pursuit of some research topics in oceanography.
