Objective
The overall objective of the SIMNET project is to develop an advanced standard-based workflow management solution for simultaneous engineering within extranets.
For this purpose the research will identify,
- Intelligent mechanism for linking engineering workflows to dynamic product data for immediate determination of the simultaneous engineering processes to be carried out as a result of modifications to the product structure.
- Enhancement of the workflow module of a commercial PDM-system with the aim of managing complex simultaneous engineering networks.
- Development of a standard interface to commercial business process modelling tools.
- Open PDM workflow architecture in compliance with the WfMC and STEP standards.
- Extranet solution for engineering networks based on Internet technology in order to overcome the heterogeneous infrastructure for information exchange between simultaneous engineering units, giving special attention to security mechanisms.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
