European Contest For Young Scientists

Objective

The European Union Contest for Young Scientists, an initiative of the European Commission, was set up in 1989 to promote the ideals of cooperation and interchange between young scientists. The Contest is the annual showcase of the best of European student scientific achievement and as such attracts widespread media interest. The 22nd. EU Contest of Young Scientists will take place 24-29 September 2010, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the Electricity Museum. Host organizer is Youth Foundation / Fundação da Juventude, a national non-profit organization with 20 years of experince on youth policies.
The EU Contest gives students the opportunity to compete with the best of their contemporaries at European level. The young scientists also have the chance to meet others with similar abilities and interests and to be guided by some of the most prominent scientists in Europe. In this way, the Commission seeks to strengthen the efforts made in each participating country to attract young people to careers in science and technology. The EU Contest for Young Scientists is part of the Science and Society activities managed by the Directorate-General for Research of the European Commission. Within the Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development, and the European Research Area, Science and Society aims to build a more harmonious relationship between scientific endeavour and the European society at large.
