TOWARDS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FRAMEWORK IN MALARIA BETWEEN THE AMRN AND EVIMALAR

Final Report Summary - OZMALNET (TOWARDS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A FRAMEWORK IN MALARIA BETWEEN THE AMRN AND EVIMALAR)

PUBLISHABLE SUMMARY
OzMalNet aims to:
• promote and facilitate interaction between colleagues, peers and potential research partners;
• communicate the scientific achievements of OzEMalaR participants; and
• create professional development opportunities for them, in particular for postgraduate students and early career postdoctoral fellows.
EVIMalaR created a legal link between the regions by incorporating an Australian malaria researcher who was then applied for funding from the Australian NHMRC to finance OzEMalaR, a mechanism for exchange of Australians to EVIMalaR partners. OzMalNet seeks reciprocal funding to allow EVIMalaR researchers to conduct exchange visit EVIMalaR ESR’s who will primarily be undertaking the exchanges. The outcome will be a more globalised integration of malaria research and greater exchange of information and personnel in the future leading to collaborative grants and ultimately concerted efforts to defeat malaria one of the greatest scourges of mankind. OzMalNet seeks to provide what we view as an essential framework for European partners to interact with Australian malariologists and exploit mutual complementarities. OzMalNet will facilitate this integration and provide the means to drive exchange through early career researcher exchanges. This will also build strong links between the next generation of malaria researchers in Europe and Australia as well as reinforcing existing trust and productive collaborations between the senior malariologists supported by the two frameworks.
