Objective
ARCHIVE addresses the need of the European electrotechnical industry for a standardised neutral archive format for design data, which is essential to guarantee the longevity of information, given the rapid changes that occur in the world of EDA tools, and the wide variety of tool sets available in the market place. The advantage this neutral format offers is that it will enable archiving, retrieval, migration, updating, modification or redesign of old designs at any time and in any CAD environment. Another significant advantage is that it will make the exchange of design data more efficient between European companies co-operating on common projects.
Up to now, industrial users have been forced to adopt ad hoc proprietary solutions, rather than standardised ones, to make good the lack of existing standard solutions. Such ad hoc solutions result in costly developments for the users and offer solutions that are neither portable, nor reusable.
The main objectives of ARCHIVE are,
- To define a complete archive information model based on the existing standard IEC 1690-2
- To achieve standardisation of the information model
- To implement an archive database to store the technical design data
- To develop a set of prototype tools to perform the archiving/retrieval of complete design data according to the archive model defined at the beginning of the project.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
