Rapid and dynamic knowledge access in distributed enterprise environment using mediator agents

Objective

Many systems which assist production planning, scheduling, calibration, maintenance and knowledge handling are already in existence However, all of them have their own internal type and structure which poses the problem of incompatibility in the flow of information between them. There is a need for an information platform system which breaks with this incompatibility and enables a company to be able to access, process, store and retrieve all information (independently of its kind) for as many as desired different, co-existent purposes as necessary.
RUNNER aims to produce a generic tool for information capturing from the different IT applications to which it is connected. It is a system which will permit the user to decide what information he needs and how to view it. This will make it possible to use, process and analyse different information according to the processes, interests and characteristics of a specific company and its workforce. It is a model which can be applied to any activity ranging from production to services. For this reason the consortium will run applications in different fields (ie maintenance, suppliers management and design).
To connect an IT application to RUNNER an agent is to be developed. RUNNER will offer a generic tool that supports the translation of company specific schemes to their equivalent structures. The variety of structures ensures the intuitive strategy of human information processing as much as possible. Navigation within the network of information will be facilitated by the different views through structures.
With RUNNER as a foundation, different scenarios can be realised. IT applications can be connected to RUNNER by mediator agents. Through RUNNER users can access information from the variety of its associated IT applications. They can access information from RUNNER, process it and access information from the connected tools for evaluating it using the RUNNER platform. The agents can be easily replaced by others and new scenarios can be built.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
