As it is non-invasive and cost-effective, medical ultrasound is now used for a large proportion of diagnostic images. The ability to provide real-time 3D images with sonography technology would provide a significant improvement. This new tool should include an interface to a standard sonograph for image acquisition, a powerful 3D engine for real-time 3D reconstruction and an ergonomic visualisation facility. This technology, therefore, has a potentially wide application area, especially in cardiology.
The proposed solution re-uses HPCN concepts and existing hardware and software. It integrates client-server architecture with existing parallel computer and 3D reconstruction libraries. PARSMED-3D creates an operational environment for physicians using a specific client and parallel server architecture.
