Designed for creating virtual community environments, HOMEVR provides tools for graphical interfaces as well as interfaces to databases and VRML environments, including avatars, 3D showrooms and shops. The overall objective of the HOMEVR project is to explore, develop and improve tools for the creation of virtual community environments for residential users. The following facilities have been developed: - an integrated tool environment for the creation of interactive VR Communities - templates for typical locations within every community - support for advanced technology, including VR, VRML, digital TV, 3D worlds where many users can meet and interact, multimedia - support for promotion and advertising capabilities, electronic payment and consumer transactions - support for PC and digital TV-based clients - an easy-to-use and visually appealing environment for home users - two pilot applications that prove the validity, usability and attractiveness of the system.
