Opening up the new and emerging science and technology in NIS countries

Objective

There are early indications (document COM(2005) 119 final, 6 April 2005), that the broad areas of FP7 will include sub-areas or elements based on the NEST concept.

The current and future NEST elements of the framework programmes need to be opened up to countries beyond the EU, countries which possess unique expertise in innovative research that is little known outside their national borders. This would enable them and the researchers of Europe to exchange/develop new knowledge and novel/innovative ideas with the aim of scheduling common activities and proposals/projects. They are also largely not aware of the opportunities for international cooperation within the framework of NEST, nor of the Framework Programmes in general, nor of the related efforts in their neighbouring regions.

The project consists of a mapping exercise and a series of training/awareness events. The mapping is expected to result in a searchable database containing the profiles of over 600 active researchers and over 80 research organizations/units from the NIS partner countries: the Russian Federation, the Ukraine, Belarus and the Republic of Moldova.

The information days, training workshops and awareness activities aim to facilitate the collaboration of 40 to 50 research organizations/units form the relevant target groups of the NIS partners to participate in calls for proposals of the next Framework Programme in NEST (or its equivalent) or under the relevant sections of the Thematic Priorities.

It is envisaged that the results of this project will reinforce the future outreach of NEST or its future progarmme/s activities in the NIS participating countries.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
