High-Performance Computational Fluid Dynamics

Final Activity Report Summary - HPCFD:PJSCHMID (High-Performance Computational Fluid Dynamics)

High performance computational fluid dynamics is a modern tool to assess by numerical means the performance and behaviour of fluid systems in many industrial applications. It has also become an important component in designing improved devices and in manipulating flows to achieve a stable and more efficient flow configuration. During this project special emphasis has been put on aeronautical applications, in particular the influence of the leading edge dynamics of a swept wing on the disturbance environment on the airfoil.

The study made use of high-order numerical techniques and sophisticated optimisation methods to investigate the optimal perturbation dynamics and the optimal control efforts to weaken the inherent instabilities.
