Enhancement of the life science interface group capabilities

Objective

There is tremendous potential for development and use of innovative advanced ICT technologies at the interface between information technologies and other disciplines described collectively as life science research. These range from miniaturisation and non lab based versions of well known techniques to the development of new methods and tools allowing for example 'point of care' diagnostics and less invasive implants to be fabricated.

This multi disciplinary research integrating life sciences is a growing area of research and merging the skills of ICT technologies and biotechnologies has been identified as an important growing area both for research and commercial developments, of high importance for Ireland by major new initiatives such as Science Foundation Ireland (www.sfi.ie). The Life Science Interface team is a multidisciplinary team in the Tyndall National Institute whose core interest lies in integrating life sciences with micro-electronic derived capabilities.

The team is in its infancy and is looking to expand and learn new skills and techniques that will help establish their knowledge and research in this multidisciplinary area and also to establish collaborations with other institutes involved in this area. This will ultimately allow the life science interface team to develop and qualify underlying key technologies to enable interfacing to DNA, proteins and cells for in vitro and later for in vivo applications including the generation of biomedical devices.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
