Low power short range wireless communications

Objective

The objective of the program is to enhance an existing 24 person wireless products development team at Duolog by adding two senior researchers and four researchers. The researchers will bring a high level of competence in low power wireless system design at system, architecture and sub-block level. This expertise will be applied to development of an 802.15.4 system-on-chip with driver software, and to the Multiple Input Multiple Output blocks required for wireless LAN 802.11n intellectual property products.

This will allow Duolog to develop low power wireless LAN designs for home network multimedia systems and wireless PAN systems for wireless sensor networks. The researchers will benefit by working with an experienced wireless implementation team and developing their research to be applied with all the constraints of a real-world product. ISLI (Institute of System Level Integration) will also provide ultra-low power system level design knowledge transfer and training for two man months to an existing staff member.

Wireless platforms including 802.11 (WLAN) and 802.15.4 (WPAN) form an important part of Europe's application technology roadmap for microelectronics as described by Media+. The research will take place in Galway, which is in the Irish Border, Midlands and West region (identified as a less favoured region of Europe). Researchers will be recruited from active research groups in Europe or elsewhere.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
