Objective
The aim of the project is to develop a multi-lingual GIS-umbrella for the management, integration, analysis and presentation of data which is of general interest for a large audience from one point of view, but at the same moment specific for every person. People want to know where to go and how to travel and how to combine several demands.
The reason for the trip depends on their objectives to travel: holiday, business, education, etc.
Until now people used maps, atlases and travel guides to collect the data and used all kind of tools to optimise their decisions in the planning of the trip. The biggest advantage of the electronic atlases we propose to develop compared to the old method, is the great freedom in search and the techniques available in making an optimal decision.
An unlimited number of search combinations is possible and by using advanced spatial analysis techniques the consequences of choices for the planning of a trip can be evaluated.
The data that will be stored will be related to the topic involved, however, a lot of this data is general from character and can be used for several applications.
The EXPLORER will be fully modular. This means that once the basic application has been developed, new explorations which contain new information or more detailed information can be added to the system.
For the definition phase it will be possible to develop a system which will contain already Europe, the countries and all the highways. Then three countries will be selected for detailed information: Portugal, Greece and The Netherlands.
In these countries one city or region will be selected.
