Final Report Summary - NANOREAL (Real-time nanoscale optoelectronics)

As electronic circuits reach the nanometer length scale, it is essential to study the charge and heat dynamics in nanomaterials, such as 2D materials, graphene, carbon nanotubes, semiconducting nanowires, and nanoparticles, which can be integrated into future information circuits. The project NanoREAL developed an ultrafast THz time-domain spectroscopy to detect the electron dynamics in such nanoscale circuits with an on-chip bandwidth of several THz. The ultrafast detection gives direct access to the ballistic time-of-flight of photogenerated charge carriers as well as to non-equilibrium thermo-electric currents and non-radiative energy transfer processes within the nanoscale circuits and materials.
