Objective
The volume of passengers and complexity of airports have diminished air travel quality to the point where it affects passengers universally, irrespective of travel class. The declining ?end-to-end? travel quality is increasingly caused by the negative emotions generated in gaining access to the aircraft and the significant difference between home life and life on-board. E-Cab solves these problems by giving greater control to passengers by collecting, manipulating and providing information. This allows passengers to know when they are expected on the aircraft, to know the location of their luggage and to determine if they have time to carry out leisure activities in the airport (eating, shopping etc) or to maximise productive time for business purposes. On-board the aircraft, passengers shall have control over the means by which they access their connectivity, with options ranging from mobile phones, PDAs, laptop computers to the classical IFE interface. The passengers shall also be given the means to control their use of time on-board the aircraft by being able to, for example, order meals at times that suit their individual needs. Offering this control is not possible with the current infrastructure so there is a considerable research task in developing the best means of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the airlines processes so that they are able to offer passengers this control in an economically feasible manner. To correctly manage the complexity of the development task, these technical aspects are divided into four main streams covering respectively: Passenger Services, People Moving, Freight Handling and Catering Services. The successful completion of this project shall provide the airports and airlines with an environment that enables the possibility of offering a step change in service concepts, ensuring reduced passenger frustration and increased competitive advantage for the European participants.
