Objective
The overall objective of the project is the development of a new high performance and cost effective construction concept for bridges (HP FUTURE-Bridge) based on the application of fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP) for rapid infrastructure renewal in the (NMS). Essential technical elements of the new concept are: -Deck and beams of FRP composites. Pillars of traditional concrete - Performance based simultaneous engineering and manufacturing - On-site industrialisation - Flexible design and manufacturing from one-off, small series and mass customisation - Development of mobile manufacturing lines - New materials development for improved fire and high temperature resistance and recyclability Cost effectiveness will be reached by reducing manufacturing costs and lead-times. High performance by performance based design; manufacturing and new materials. Energy efficiency will be improved and environmental impact reduced in the whole life cycle of the bridge by reduction de energy consumption in the on-site manufacturing process and materials transport and by improving recyclability through new thermoplastic resins. Low noise during bridge production and operation as well as durability is assured by the use of FRP materials. Low maintenance is due to the highly durability and corrosion free of FRP materials and safer and risk mitigation during production and bridges erection due to its lightness and quick assembly.
