LONG-TERM PERFORMANCE OF PAVEMENTS

Objective

to integrate current European studies on long-term performance of road pavements under the influence of traffic loading and climate ;
to yield a well structured set of data on long-term pavement performance, to serve as the basis for development of new pavement design and management techniques.

Current status
All the work packages in the COST 324 program have been completed according to the programme, and the Final Report is in the process of completion. This includes the following :
a summary and introduction to the work programme ;
an inventory of network monitoring, real-time loading testing and accelerated testing ;
a report on factors affecting pavement performance ;
an assessment of current performance prediction models ;
terms of reference for performance prediction models ;
terms of reference for traffic data acquisition ;
a report on the unification of data acquisition procedures ;
terms of reference for a pavement performance database ;
a long term road pavement performance database (to be completed) ;
an assessment of the benefits to different types of users.

In addition to the work package documents included in the Final Report, an extensive study was undertaken into factors affecting pavement performance, and this will be made available separately.

Study on Rating Trees for the Analysis of Pavement Performance Factors.

Work planned
The technical work of COST 324 is in the process of being finalised, and this is being undertaken by a Final Report Working Group. Therefore, there are six further significant tasks to be carried out, and these are as follows :
completion of the final report document ;
publication and distribution of the hard copy version ;
dissemination of the final report via the Internet ;
organisation of the COST 324 final seminar ;
technical and managerial evaluation ;
impact evaluation.

The initial five of these tasks will be completed by July 1997, with the Impact Evaluation probably taking place in 1999.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
