Supporting SME-academia collaboration in the area of biomedical research in FP7 through efficient matching facilities and tailor-made information with special focus on NMS and ACC

Objective

SMEs go Health is designed to support SMEs and academic researchers in the 7th EU-Framework Programme (FP7) in order to foster trans-European RTD collaboration. SMEs and researchers shall be encouraged and trained in view of establishing joint innovative research projects by using the funding opportunities for biomedical research of FP7. The planned supporting activities shall facilitate partnering and consortium building by paving the way for an easier identification of competent and suitable research partners with the needed expertise and know-how, especially in New Member States (NMS) and Candidate Countries (ACC). The main activities of the proposed project comprise: -Awareness building and training of SMEs and academic institutions regarding the opportunities and rules of FP7 -Improving the visibility of SME know-how and the expertise of researchers, particularly in NMS and ACC among the European scientific community -Supporting SMEs and academic institutions in consortium building through matchmaking facilities and partnering activities in order to foster RTD collaboration and research project proposal submission in medical technology and healthcare biotechnology of FP7 SMEs go Health will capitalise on the experience and results of SMEs go LifeSciences, providing a European-wide pool of high quality SME profiles and partner searches in a well accepted and user-friendly online database. A well rehearsed network of 29 partners in 27 countries (3 AS, 4 ACC, 8 NMS and 12 old member states) will ensure Europe-wide implementation of the planned activities, addressing the low participation of SMEs in the EU Framework Programme, especially in NMS and ACC, and contributing to the implementation of FP7. Collaboration with related national and international initiatives and Technology Platforms is another focus of the project, in order to benefit form synergies and hence exploit project results even better'.
