Tailoring of novel Peptide coatings and therapeutics derived from a newly identified component of human innate immunity against resistant infection

Objective

The NPARI consortium aims to exploit the discovery of a potent novel anti-microbial peptide class. Peptides will be targeted against a range of resistant bacterial and fungi in a highly focussed multi-disciplinary approach. The Peptide class is already being developed commercially as a coating agent to prevent colonisation of contact lenses and has good efficacy and safety data for this application.

This program intends to build on this success by exploiting the peptides in two application areas; novel coating agents for catheters and medical devices and human therapeutics. The socio economic cost to the EU of bacterial and fungal infections in enormous. This program aims to make an impact by developing products that either i) prevent colonisation of medical devices by resistant bacteria ii) develop therapeutic peptides which target resistant micro-organisms and fungi.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
