Study of newly-discovered matter in very energetic collisions of hadrons or heavy ions

Objective

A hadron is a particle whose behaviour is governed by the theory of strong interactions: quantum chromodynamics (QCD). It was recently predicted that any hadron should behave as a new universal form of matter when undergoing a collision at very high energies.

Hints of manifestations of this new hadronic matter called the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) may have been already observed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and at the Hadron Electron Ring Accelerator (HERA).

Objectives:
- To study QCD at high energies on theoretical grounds and develop our understanding of the CGC.
- To predict the underlying consequences for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which will operate at energies higher than ever reached before.
- To identify ideal ways of testing those predictions using the different experiments taking place at HERA, RHIC, the Tevatron and in the future at the LHC.
- To exhibit further evidence for the CGC and make its discovery official Relevance: - The LHC is scheduled to start operating within two years.
- The excellence of both the partner organization and the return host organization in the field of high-energy QCD.
- The experience of the researcher with the theory of high-energy QCD, his possibility to interact efficiently with experimentalists and the possibility to widen his knowledge in particle and nuclear physics by means of a high-level Research Training.

This project fits very well with the goals of the Marie Curie mobility actions.
