Total Synthesis of the Potent Neurotrophic Factors Spirotenuipesine A and B

Objective

The proposed outgoing phase project will further the development of a library of complex natural products with potent neurotrophic activity, along with their analogues, under the guidance of Professor Danishefsky at Columbia University.

This research group has a leading expertise in the synthesis of complex natural products with biological activity as well as in the investigation of their mode of action in the target systems. The return phase will permit the development of a drug discovery project with a pharmaco-genomic approach within the laboratories of Dr. Balasubramanian at Cambridge University.

The group has a leading role in the field of chemical biology of nucleic acids in cancer-related mechanisms in order to provide a way forward to new cancer therapeutics. This work will complement the researcher's training in the synthesis of complex molecules with biological activity and enable the development of a multidisciplinary background.

The mobility and high profile academic collaboration will encourage co-operation between research disciplines and provide the opportunity to widely advertise participation in Marie Curie actions. Overall, the two phases would benefit a motivated European scientist to develop many new skills on different grounds.

Important networks of international communication would also be established, providing a platform for research innovation and economic strengthening within Europe. The measures would counteract the brain-drain problem whist assisting the researcher to develop into a top European scientist.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
