Graphing Objects

Objective

This research proposal in the field of Computer Vision is concerned with the representation and recognition of objects in digital images or image sequences. The research objective of this proposal aims to the fundamental and interesting problem how reliable object representations can be learned in such a way that similar objects can be represented as a similar relational structure. Such a stable representation would dramatically improve the ability of algorithms to recognise objects in arbitrary environments. We believe that representing objects as graphs provides such a stable representation and that this converts the process of object recognition into a graph-matching problem. To achieve this aim we will cast the graph-matching problem into a thermodynamic framework. Then we will exploit research results in statistical physics to obtain a hierarchical graph representation and an appropriate graph- matching algorithm. The proposed research will enable the researcher to improve his expertise in computer vision and enables him to obtain complementary skills that will help him to pursue his long-term aim to build up his own computer vision research group.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
