Incomplete Markets and Monetary Policy

Objective

Within almost all modern nations, special institutions (like the European Central Bank or the US Federal reserve) exist and have the task of maintaining the monetary policy of a country or transnational entity independently of executive government. In general, these institutions are called central banks and often have other responsibilities such as supervising the smooth operation of the financial system. Since no single model can contain all the mechanisms or channels that might be at work in the transmission of monetary policy, central bankers ought to rely on a variety of approaches, or paradigms to inform their decision-making. A new growing body of literature makes use of micro foundation of monetary policy.

This new generation of models allows new answers to the long-standing questions about money and answers some of the questions that have never been answered before.
