Objective
Radio is a key medium for promoting public awareness of science. A previously funded Science and society project (SCIRAB) has highlighted that science is well covered in national cultural radios, but is mostly absent in local radios. Climate research and assessment of impacts of climate change are increasingly crucial issues from the point of view of science, policy making and public interest.
Several large scale projects in FP6 thematic priority 6 (in which the CLIMER scientific partners are involved) bring together climate researchers of several countries, focusing on the relationship between global scientific knowledge, local interests and policy making. CLIMER is aimed at linking these two already running activities, to co-produce a series of radio programmes on climate changes and their impacts with strong attention to local issues and a focus on the Mediterranean area. Programmes will be developed in a collaborative effort between scientists and journalists of three countries.
