Objective
In January 2007 the Seventh Research Framework Programme (7th RFP) will start and establish the European Research Council (ERC). To celebrate the launch of the ERC and to effectively promote this key component of the Lisbon strategy, which aims to turn Europe into a globally competitive, knowledge based-society, an international conference is scheduled to take place in Berlin on 27 and 28 February 2007.
With Germany assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU then, the German government has asked the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) to design and organize this event. The main objectives of the 2-days conference are to communicate the strategy of the ERC and to discuss the major challenges the ERC is faced with in the ERA and beyond. The conference will stress the change of paradigms in European research policy since the 7th RFP has raised frontier research to a political priority and addresses excellent researchers to make Europe become the international leader in science.
