Innovation and Sustainable Development in the Fibre Based Packaging Value Chain

Objective

The overall objective of the RTD activities is to develop and implement a Sustainable Packaging Tool Platform based on renewable resources, giving innovative properties to packaging, thereby offering new value added packaging options for packaging users and for consumers. The Tool Platform comprises New Innovative Material Properties and New Innovative Process Developments to transform these materials into new packaging solutions. The processing part will be the main area for introducing Sees in the project. SUSTAINPACK will be a 'pull driven' project, that is to focus on customer and downstream supply chain needs, identify research requirements and integrate other key themes: sustainable development, European competitiveness, ED directives, legislation and policy strongly within the structure of this project. The technology platform part will be a new way to identify the potential of renewable packaging in Europe. This is a packaging initiative on European level that has never been accomplished before. The IP will meet the objectives through the development and sustainable production of advanced functional fibre and polymeric materials and their integrated Nan structured functional elements. The project is expected to result in new innovative renewable packaging materials with improved material characteristics. The objective is to understand, design and develop new complex multifunctional packaging materials, based on wood fibres and renewable polymers in order to extend their limits in a context of sustainability. Engineering support will include an array of supportive technologies such as smart coatings, testing, up scaling, implementation and eco-design tools as well as life cycle and product friendliness approaches. The project will be a significant step forward for packaging based on renewable resources will be accomplished, bringing innovation into the related industries and also create a platform for SME-related technology de

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
