Objective
This proposal is aimed towards the continuation of the operations of an Innovation Relay Center on the island of Cyprus. The IRC has been operating in the region for the last three years (since April 2000) and has recorded significant performance. The vision of the Cyprus Innovation Relay Center - largely coincident with that of its host organization, the Cyprus Institute of Technology, and the IRCs Network - is to improve the competitiveness of the local enterprises through the Technology Transfer and InnovationExploitation. Its main objectives are the technology transfer both to and from Cyprus, the exploitation of EU research results, the stimulation of the capacity of local firms to adopt new technology, the creation of synergies between the IRC activities with other regional and national service providers as well as with Commission supported networks and last but not least the strengthening of the Network of the IRCsthrough the continuous improvement of process and the close collaboration with the members of the Network. Specifically, the IRC will actively participate in Brokerage Events, organize Brokerage Events and company missions, it will exchange its technology portfolio with other IRCs while it will perform a significant number of Preliminary Audits, Technology Audits and Company Visits. Additionally, the IRC-Cy will organize a number of information days, specialized workshops and seminars addressed to the Cyprus SMEs, business associations for stimulating the capacity of local firms to adopt new technologies as well as meetings with research centers, SMEs and researchers for the exploitation of research results and technology transfer. The protection of the intellectual property rights and the financing of innovation are also very important issues that will be taken into consideration. These activities will assist the rationalization of the Network's and Commission's general objectives.
