Objective
The project defines a scenario aimed at spotlighting environmental problems in small-medium foundries and rising questions that need decision making and problem solving activities. ECO-in-Foundries approaches the environmental issues in foundries focusing on cost savings and competitiveness. The main goal is to facilitate the communication between SMEs, Researchers, Associations and technologies developers, to exchange experience and to develop practical tools and new research projects. Through the developm ent of an environmental communication system, the exchange of practical solutions on environmental issues between foundries from different Countries is simple and effective. By bringing together the available experience of European foundries for implementi ng an integrated environmental management approach through benchmarking activities and by jointly tackling new environmental issues and by involving its stakeholders, the foundry sector will develop a higher level of know-how and will provide suggestions t o policy makers on a national and European level. The two-year project is composed by 8 work-packages, (7 support activities and 1 management activity): WP1: the study of the environmental technologies and solutions in European Foundries. WPs 2,3,4: buildi ng an information system that focuses on solutions rather than environmental problems. The system consists of a DBase together with a Web Site and a Methodological Guide to facilitate and rationalise the exchange of information and management solution amon g SMEs. WP5: the consolidation of experience and the organisation of an International Workshop creating basis for new bottom-up activities as spin off from Eco-in-Foundries WP6: the network enlargement and the implementation of the project. WP7: the exploi tation and the dissemination of the results. Both WPs will begin in the second year of activity of the project. WP8: Partnership and the Public Relationships Management.
