Innovating South Muntenia

Objective

The development of the Regional Innovation Strategy in South Muntenia Region will serve as the main focus of all project activities. The strategy will be prepared based on a strong partnership that will bring together representatives of private enterpris e, business support organizations, R&D and education, local authorities and NGOs. The key actors representing specific sectors will work together towards developing their capacity to participate effectively in the planning and delivery process. Thus, the regional network will be interconnected with the foreign partner regions and furthermore will consolidate a European platform for exchange of experience and dissemination of good practices on innovation-related themes among key regional actors. Th e project will include an assessment of SME support services and innovation supply, identification of regional business needs and an audit of R&D activities and infrastructure. This research will form the basis of the RIS and will also feed into oth er local, regional and national plans, providing a framework for a better absorption of EU funds. South Muntenia is an attractive location for inward investment and the counties in the North of the region have already been successful in attracting FDI. A main focus of the strategy will be the creation, across the whole region, of an environment which encourages high value added foreign and domestic investment, increases the local multiplier effects of such investment and promotes this to investors. Th e project and the strategy will ensure the development of indigenous business. This will be initiated through an awareness raising campaign on the importance of innovation and through working with SMEs and research and education institutions to increase investment in R & D and the impact of such investment. The project will also develop services that increase the participation of SMEs in future European Programmes.
