Biogas based polygeneration for combined heat, cooling and power applications

Objective

This project aims to demonstrate an innovative integration of state of the art technologies resulting in application driven poly-generation based on biogas production and utilisation in combination with other existing waste heat streams for the tri-generation of heat, cooling and power. An Anaerobic Digestion Plant - ADP will be placed next to an existing landfill gas Power Plant - PP (consisting of 11 engines in parallel with 14MWe installed capacity) at an adjusted landfill site which so far operates without any waste heat recovery.

The ADP will process Category 2 and 3 animal wastes (Regulation (EC) 1774/2002) as well as other organic wastes (approx. 18000 tons/year). The biogas produced, about 2800m3/day, will be provided to the nearby Power plant (PP) to be used for power generation to the existing Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) and a new micro-turbine. In turn, the ADO will utilise part of the waste heat, which is now rejected by the PP, and will produce biogas that corresponds to approx.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
