An Integrated Platform for Reasoning from Cases

Objetivo

The objective of INRECA is to integrate case-based reasoning and induction techniques in order to develop a technology for building diagnosis and identification applications by using case records.
A common case representation language, CASUEL has been specified. Various options to integrate induction and case based reasoning have been explored as well as the methodology to evaluate the results of such an integration.

Hypermedia editors, the hypermedia case manager and the descriptive model editor, have been prototyped and demonstrated.
Case-based reasoning is the name given to problem-solving methods which make use of specific past experiences (cases) rather than a corpus of general knowledge. One of the goals of INRECA is to compare and contrast these two approaches to problem-solving using complex real-world applications in biology (medical diagnosis from case records, identification of marine sponges) and technical maintenance (fault diagnosis in aircraft). The aim is to produce a generic case-based reasoning platform for diagnosis and two market-oriented systems focusing on a pharmaceutical industry application and technical maintenance.
