THz (0.1-10THz THz = 10E12 Hz) wireless communication systems are expected to accommodate extremely huge data aggregated in next generation wireless backhaul, as well as could find use for greatly increasing the capacity of wireless video transfer of live events, ultra-fast transmission of large medical image files or setting up an extremely large amount of mobile communication units in disaster areas. In this project, we have successfully demonstrated a high speed 400 GHz wireless communication system with an aggregated data rate of up to 60Gbit/s. This achievement pushes the data rate beyond the state-of-the-art in the frequency range above 300GHz. The scheme in this project is fully compatible with WDM optical networks, and is very promising in bridging next generation 100GbE data rates into the wireless domain, for very high data rate indoor radio applications.
