Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Heliox BV is developing a Conductive Fast Charge System for buses which will offer a cost-effective breakthrough technology for zero emission public transport AND competitive strength to the European Bus manufacturing industry. Main objectives of Phase 1 were to develop a detailed business plan, strengthen the relationship with potential customers and partners and define the technology.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

These objectives have been addressed through a number of actions and with the support of the EU provided business coach, which include:
• Discussion with main stakeholders: European Bus Manufacturers, Charge point Operators, Public Transport Companies, Cities and regions potentially interested in Hybrid & Electric (H&E) public transport bus services, Banks and other potential investors.
• Benchmark study performed on its competitors and pilot projects.
• Identification targeted end user market and provide insight into the determining factors for influencing technology selection.
• Assessment of the future business market landscape.
• Identification of most promising countries to target for market entry and action plan for market entry.
• Sharing the outcomes of the various trials as case studies to prospective customers.
• Provide evidence supporting the technology.
• Demonstration on how the system will deliver no adverse impact on vehicle availability, deployment and timetables.
• Investigation and implementation on interoperability segments, such as OCPP and CCS/MODE4.
• Operational capacity analysis.
• Development of the implementation plan.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

The outcomes of the actions have resulted in a set of recommendations with the conclusion to continue at full speed with the project. This is underpinned by the main results of the actions performed. There is a strong positive reception by the stakeholders of the product and a high interest of the potential end user market. There is a growing market of deployment of the Heliox solution, due to a supportive legislative environment, government financial support programs, and lack of current and near future mature competition. The technical viability has been proved in real environment testing and specific operational analysis has indicated the amount of investment and capacity needed to move forward. Heliox will submit a Phase 2 application for the development of final products and market introduction.
