Objective
A new fixation system for the femoral component of total hip prostheses has been developed by the University of Leuven. The new system combines advantages of cemented and cementless fixation systems while avoiding most of the drawbacks, and it can also be used for other skeletal implants such as total knee replacemnts or tooth implants. An exploratory trial has demonstrated the technical feasibility. The prosthesis now has to be tested in a large scale clinical trial.
