STPRMS - Sustainable Truck Parking Reservation Management System

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - UPP (STPRMS - Sustainable Truck Parking Reservation Management System)

Reporting period: 2015-07-01 to 2015-10-31

The daily need for truck parking spaces on motor-ways in Europe gets worse, resulting in exceeding of allowed driving time, parking in gateways, accidents, security issues, higher fuel consumption and environmental pollution. Until 2030 the commercial transport shall increase up to 39% and will worsen the situation in Europe. A truck parking reservation system which follows an integrated and holistic approach is therefore necessary and overdue with the objectives to guarantee clean and sustainable transport as well as an efficient and secure transport systems by an interoperable, seamless, technology-led, user-friendly system.

The aim of the EU`s land transport policy is to promote mobility that is efficient, safe, secure and environmentally friendly. Our project contributes to the topics clean and sustainable transport as well as to intelligent transport systems. With our business idea we guarantee an intelligent, technology-led and user-friendly system which includes an interoperable and seamless service to ensure that there are adequate truck parking spaces. With the results of this report we are able to create a very unique reservation system by integrating the demands of all stakeholders with an innovation-in-assembly as well as a pervasive-computing approach that can be used with minimum effort at existing and new parking spaces and lead to reduction of parking space search, security, more comfort and to ecological sustainability. Safety: Parking in dangerous areas can be avoided. Network efficiency: Capacity utilization can be maximized and unnecessary traffic searching for parking places can be decreased. Environmental impact: air pollution can be mitigated.
