Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DRIVING RIG (Driving simulator for disabled people with scientific assessment of driving skills and indication to of adaptation to be made to the vehicle) Reporting period: 2015-07-01 to 2015-12-31 Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project "Driving Rig aims at simplifying and facilitating access to mobility for people with disabilities, by allowing:INFORMED PURCHASEDriving Rig permits trial of any driving aid device before final modification of the vehicle, with potential savings worth several thousand EurosREALISTIC DRIVING EXPERIENCE Driving Rig simulation evaluates driving safety, based on regulatory, clinical and engineering data A SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT Driving Rig diagnosis will simplify procedures for obtaining a special driving licenseWith roughly 1 million of newly registered cars per year and an estimated rate of 4 to 5 percent disabled drivers in EU , Driving Rig aims at meeting the latent demand of the vast category of persons classified as ""differently abled""" Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far In the first phase of the project we focused on three areas : - Market analysis - Development of the Evaluation Method on regulatory, clinical and engineering bases- Technology design needed to run the Evaluation Method and development of a first advanced prototypeAs a result It was possible to achieve: - An in-depth market analysis with all direct and indirect stakeholders - A sustainable scalable business model for the automotive suppliers industry - A scientific evaluation model for safe driving- A software and hardware feasibility study- A statistic/predictive feasibility study Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far) With Driving Rig the following impacts are expected: ECONOMIC impact;defined as increase of: - Vehicles sales- Sales of driving aids for impaired drivers- Modifications/Adaptations of vehicles- Driving Rig periodic diagnosisSCIENTIFIC and TECHNOLOGY impactdefined as : - Increased market interest for the technical and technological development of solutions aimed at serving differently abled persons in the automotive market- Supply of massive data, acquired with Driving Rig software, of great value for medical research on all types of physical disability and for the elderly populationSOCIAL impactdefined as :- Increase of personal independence granted by access to mobility - A strictly scientific aid for medical and engineering assessments provided by all operators responsible for the release of driver’s licenses driving-rig-virato-jpg2-jpg3.jpg
