The filtering of special steel in the continuous casting of billets

Objective

Separate macro-inclusions in continuously cast special steel billets should be reduced in number by filtering the steel melt with ceramic filters. Suitable filters are to be developed in conjunction with the manufacturers and tested for their service behaviour and their filtering properties. The filters will be built into the distributor of a six-strand continuous caster for special steel billets. Filtered and unfiltered steams of operationally cast, microscopically clean special steel melts will be compared for their contents of undesired macro-inclusions. The filters will be examined for changes in the filter material and filter construction and the separated phases. If this project succeeds, the rejection risk in the continuous casting of special steel will be reduced and the number of types of steel suitable for continuous casting increased.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
