Objective
To refine the crystallization structure and to eliminate solidification lacunae which occur in continuously cast billets, the project aims at passing vibrations through the product during solidification. The transmission of the vibrations which is the object of the investigations will be effected either by a submerged probe or directly on the solidified skin of the billet at the exit from the mould. Two steel qualities will be studied: high-carbon steels with 0.85 % carbon and ferritic stainless steels. This work is a follow-up to research already subsidized by the ECSC: contracts 7210- CA/302, 416, 812, 816.
