Objective
This project is aimed at optimizing EAF production processes for special steels. It will attempt to improve the manufacturing process (power consumption, metal yield, electrode consumption) and develop new technologies (scrap pre-heating, charging and melting). It will also investigate specific problems (voltage fluctuations in weak supply lines, asymmetric arc regulation during melting) in order to improve operations. An in-depth comparison will be made of the performance of AC and DC furnaces. A dedicated 7 MW DC furnace will be used to develop new technologies for dust treatment and for direct processing in order to reduce dust toxicity and recover metals.
