Objective
THIS PROJECT IS A FOLLOW-UP TO TWO EARLIER CONTRACTS (7210.GA/120 AND 7210.GA/810) IN THE SAME FIELD. THE AIM IS TO DEVELOP A MEASURING METHOD TO DETERMINE INTERNAL MECHANICAL STRESSES IN ROLLED AND FORGED PRODUCTS.
INTERNAL STRESSES, WHICH WILL BE ANALYSED SOLELY BY AN ULTRASONIC METHOD USING TRANSVERSE WAVES OF DIFFERENT POLARITY, WILL BE DISTINGUISHED FROM SURFACE STRESSES AND STRESS GRADIENTS, FOR WHICH MAGNETIC METHODS WILL BE USED (DYNAMIC MAGNETOSTRICTION, BERKHAUSEN EFFECT, ETC.) BECAUSE OF THEIR GREATER SENSITIVITY. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ULTRASONIC METHODS WILL CONSIST OF IMPROVING THE TRANSVERSE WAVE EMITTORS AND RECEIVERS AND THE PROCESSING ELECTRONICS.
THE MAGNETIC METHODS WILL BE ADAPTED AND IMPROVED AND PROTOTYPES WILL BE CONSTRUCTED.
THE PROGRAMME WILL ALSO INCLUDE BASIC RESEARCH TO IDENTIFY THE EFFECTS OF THE STRUCTURE AND OF THE STRESSES STEMMING FROM THE INFLUENCE OF THE STEEL STRUCTURE ON THE MEASUREMENTS PROPER.
