Objective
Recent changes have resulted in more continuously cast steel being produced, which means that rolled products are different from ingot products with respect to both chemical composition and microstructure. The aims of the proposed work are to determine the kinetics of oxidation for a number of steels under a range of thermal cycles and with different atmospheres simulating reheating furnace conditions. The aim is to generate data, which could be applied to any practical reheating cycle. The research will include ingot and continuously cast steels, including commercial low- carbon mild steels, medium-carbon steel and low-alloy steels.
