Objective

Basic research is needed in this field for a better understanding of: (a) the chemical reactions that take place at the metal/rust interface through the application of different chemical agents, by identifying the reaction products, their morphology and the level of corrosion protection that they provide; (b) the effect of the type and characteristics of the oxide that forms the rust adhering to the steel; (c) the effect of the presence in the rust of corrosion stimulating substances (chlorides and sulphates); (d) the aesthetic aspects of the surface finish obtained.
