RESISTANCE SPOT WELDING AND PROJECTION WELDING OF ZINC-COATED STEEL PLATE.

Objective

THE COMMUNITY MARKET FOR COLD-FORGING BARS AND IN PARTICULAR BARS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF TIES IS BEING INVADED BY IMPORTS FROM THE FAR EAST AND IS IN DECLINE. IT COULD EVEN DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY IF COLD FORGERS CANNOT IMPROVE THEIR COST PRICE. A REDUCTION IN THE COST OF THEIR RAW MATERIAL WOULD BE PARTICULARLY WELCOME; THIS COULD BE ACHIEVED BY THE ELIMINATION OF SUB-CRITICAL ANNEALING AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STEEL WHICH COULD BE DRAWN AND COLD FORGED IN THE "ROUGH-ROLLED" STATE. IT WOULD THEN BE POSSIBLE TO SAVE SOME 350 F/T.

THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEFINE THE CRITICAL PROPERTIES OF THESE STEELS AND IN PARTICULAR TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THE CONCEPT OF ADIABATIC INSTABILITY TO SHEAR COULD BE APPLIED TO COLD FORGING. THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME WILL COMPRISE THE FABRICATION OF 24 LABORATORY BARS AND THEIR TRANSFORMATION INTO RODS AND, IN SOME CASES, WIRE.
THEY WILL THEN BE SUBJECTED TO INVERSE EXTRUSION AND DOUBLE UPSETTING WITH AN INDUSTRIAL COLD FORGING MACHINE INSTALLED IN THE LABORATORY. ON THE BASIS OF THE COLD FORGING IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE PROPAGATION OF DEFORMATION AND DEFORMATION TO RUPTURE; CREEP CURVES FOR TENSILE TESTS CARRIED OUT AT BETWEEN 25 AND 620 CELSIUS DEGREES WILL ALSO BE DRAWN UP.

WE SHALL BE ABLE TO ESTABLISH THE OPTIMUM COMPOSITION FOR A "ROUGH-ROLLED" COLD DRAWN FORGING STEEL AND COMMERCIAL QUANTITIES WILL BE PRODUCED AND ASSESSED.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
