Objective
The aim of this research is to provide a statistically reliable and fully representative assessment of the mean values and scatter in fracture toughness for a typical steel weld metal using a combination of standard mechanical tests and recent recommendations for weldment fracture mechanics tests. The work will be co-ordinated by the Welding Institute and involve the participation of 14 Laboratories throughout the Community. The results will contribute to standardization of tests, development of standards for fracture assessment and more economical material selection.
