Objective
The project aims at studying the effect of low levels of P (50 ppm to 0.1 %), Al (30 ppm to 0.1 %) and B (3 ppm to 0.05 %) on workability, thermo-mechanical properties, thermal fatigue and creep behaviour during use of X38 CrMo V 5 1 grade tool steel. Experimental 300 kg melts will be produced with controlled variations in P, Al, B levels, while keeping levels of other trace elements constant, and processed into tool steel. The properties mentioned above will be determined for the temperature range likely to be experienced in use.
