Objective
The aim of this project is to collate data in relation to roughness, cutting velocity, accuracy, susceptibility-tolerance and the physical and chemical properties of the cut edges of stainless steels. These will be correlated with previous steel processing history, residual stresses prior to cutting, cut component shape, use of linear or circular polarized laser light, effects of preheating etc. This analysis will be used to develop online cutting process monitoring and control procedures and to define operating standards to improve cutting quality.
