Objective
In modern steel-making the rapid availability of information concerning steel cleanness is essential. To provide this it is necessary to determine the size and type of inclusions. This project will focus on using mathematical techniques for the evaluation of data from spark and laser optical emission spectrometers to predict and certify steel cleanness rapidly. The objective is to devise data processing algorithms and test procedures to provide a five-minute indicative test for process samples and a fifteen-minute definitive test for products. These will be validated against present time-consuming procedures.
