Hearth protection in blast furnace operation by injection of TiO2-materials

Objective

The main objectives of the project are to generate information to assist the BF operators in optimising hearth protection by cutting costs for Ti enrichment of the HM. Therefore experiments will be carried out comparing the efficiency of charging ilmenite or other Ti-materials through the burden and by injecting the same through the tuyeres. A reliable data base will be produced concerning ilmenite substitution by other Ti02 -materials and the co-injection with additives/reducing agents forcing reduction kinetics and mass transfer into the HM. One main point of investigation will be the method to achieve an efficient raw material utilisation minimising titanium content of the slag. Additionally the local injection shall be optimised. Savings due to effects of local enrichment will be evaluated. Heat flux determination shall give information about the repair speed of worn areas and the necessary local titanium enrichment.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
