Evaluation of the capability of spray forming for the production of very high alloyed steels without necessity of heavy hot working

Objective

Spray atomisation and compaction or, more common spray forming, fill a gap between casting and powder metallurgy, having advantages such as rapid solidification, fine-grained microstructure, absence of macro segregation and structural homogeneity (even in complex alloy systems) and possibility of forming primary shapes. To elaborate the benefits of spray forming, the project will focus on high-alloyed steels, where the required materials properties can be achieved in competition to powder metallurgical products or to electro slag refined qualities. Within the project the alloys will be spray-formed under defined conditions to various shapes. The examination will be carried out by standardised tests in the partner laboratories. This includes the determination of microstructure, mechanical and chemical properties. Wear and corrosion resistance shall be investigated, as well as hot workability and the possibility to reduce hot working to a degree near zero, respectively.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
